BBFC

BBFC (British Board of Film Classification)

The BBFC are a privately owned business, not associated with the government, who are responsible for censorship and for classifying films and putting them into different categories. These categories are of different age ratings. These ratings are:
U (Universal - anybody may watch films rated U)
PG (Parental Guidance - may need parental guidance to watch)
12A (people under the age of 12 may watch this film when they have a parent or carer with them)
12 (age of 12+ may watch this film)
15 (age of 15+ may watch this film)
18 (age of 18+ may watch this film) R18 (Restricted 18 - pornography).

Table of film classifactions from the BBFC:

Our film is to involve strong language and strong violence.
It will contain themes of an adult nature, which are what are expected ina typical crime and action thriller.
Also, it will not contain any sexual references and no nudity is involed so we would classify our film with an age rating of 15. Thankfully, this does not effect our target audience.

Cast and Characters

Leon (Christian) - Leon is one of the key characters in the film. His appearance is to give the audience an antagonist view of him. He helps do this by his costume which is caual wear, that of a working class person and this style helps the audience with the setting of the film. Also by his style of walk and the respect that is shown to him from other characters of the same style.
He wears his hood up to cover his face which is not seen at any point during the film opening and gives the audience a fearful view of him. The audience have got no idea about what this character is like so it helps create enigma during the opening on where he is heading to or what he is going to do.

Jay (Anthony) - Jay is another one of the key characters in the film. His costume is still casual wear but has more of a middle class look to him than of a working class look like Leon has.
Unlike Leon, Jay's face is seen a number of times throughout the film opening so he does not give as much for the audience to question about but he does create some enigma when he answers the phone call as you do not know who is on the other end and also why does he sound slightly nervous while on the phone?
Jay's dialogue during the phone call lets the audience know that he is on the way to meet someone, but who he is going to meet is the question.

Unknown character (Tom Petty) - this is a character that is just someone who is hanging around the streets but he has respect for Leon and see's him as the 'top dog' around these streets. This is shown by when he says 'alright mate' to Leon and put his hand up to shake Leon's hand.
This character is unknown to the audience and his face is also not seen so the audience wonder who this is and creates enigma.

Unknown character (Ed Clixby) - this character plays the smallest role in the film opening. All that this character does is stand at the opposite side of the street occupied by his phone in the scene that Leon and Jay meet but is to make the audience think that Jay is really on his way to meet this character.
This unknown character is also wearing casual clothing, the same as any other civillian.
He creates enigma because the audience also wonder who he is and what is he doing stood there? His big build also makes them think that he is a tough character.

Editing Update

We have completed the editing of the film opening and everything is running smoothly. The only things left to do now is to add titles to it, production logos and music. We already know what style of music we want, we just need to find the right one needed.

Planning - 8 Key Questions

1. Is it practical?

It is practical as we had everything needed to produce our film opening and also the locations we filmed in were easy to gain access to.

2. Is it and idea that works to the strengths of the group?

It is as our group is small, it only has 2 people in it and we both enjoy the genre of film that our film opening is. Also we share similar interests and get on very well so it is easy to agree on what we want to do.

3. Will it show off the skills you have learnt so far on the course?

We have learnt a number of different skills and techniques so far on the course and our film opening will let us show most of what we have learnt so far such as different camera angles and shot types.

4. Is it something you can reasonably shoot and edit in the time available?

As the film opening is only around 2 minutes in length then it shouldn't take any longer than just a few hours to film and another few hours to edit.

5. Can you get access/permission to shoot in the chosen location at the chosen time?

We filmed in what is a public area so it was easy to gain acces to our location and no permission was needed.

6. Can you organise lighting to use in that location?

The lighting in our film was natural lighting so we did not need to organise how the lighting was to be set as the lighting we used was from the street lights.
However, in the first scene, it was filmed inside so we used a lamp to help the audience to focus on the props that were picked up by Leon.

7. Have you included dialogue?

We have included very little dialogue in the film opening and it is only in one of our scenes. All that is said is 3 very short sentences by the charcter Jay while he is on the phone.

8. Do you have guarenteed high quality, reliable actors to play the characters?

We have 4 actors in our film opening and 2 of these are the group members so obviously Anthony and I are reliable as we wish to get the filming done. The other 2 actors, Tom Petty and Ed Clixby, are also reliable as they agreed to play a part in the film and they are also good friends of ours so they wish to help us on completing the task.

Filming - Day 2

We have now completed all the filming for our film opening and again it was a sucessful night. The weather was about the same as Day 1 and the streets where also quiet, just how we needed it to be.
We also got a lot more filming done than Day 1 because it was only Anthony and I tonight as Tom Petty and Ed Clixby were not needed.

Filming - Day 1

Today was our first day of filming. We we went out with two other actors, Tom Petty and Ed Clixby, who are playing a part in our film opening and we completed the scenes that they are involved in, although we didn't film in chronological order we can sort this out once we start editing.
Also the weather was good and the streets where not too busy which is what we needed, so overall it was a succesful night and we will continue tomorrow.
