Job roles in our group

Camera

Anthony Hanson and I will be in control of the camera work and managing the cinematography of our piece this is by carrying out angles, movements and camera shot. This is because we both felt comfortable using the camera during the preliminary task. The camera operator is responsible for physically operating the camera maintaining composition and camera angles.

Sound

Also Anthony Hanson and I will control the sound. This is for the same reason as with the camera work which is that we felt comfortable using the equipment during the preliminary task. But if we are both on camera then we will rely on Kiah Stenhouse to do this. We will use a boom microphone and radio microphone. The boom operator is the one responsible for microphone movement and placement.

Lighting

We will be using natural lighting in our film opening so will not be using any artificial lighting. The natural lighting we will be using is low key lighting at night time and also using the street lights.

Director

Kiah Stenhouse will be the director for our film opening. We have chosen for her for this role because she has the leadership skills needed for this job. Also because we are using her idea and she knows what she wants the film opening to involve. The director is the one responsible for overseeing the key aspects of the film such as controlling the content and flow of the films plot, directing the actors, organising where the film is to be shot and managing the camera positions, use of lighting and the timing of the films soundtrack.

Producers

We are all producers of the film opening as we are all participating in the acting and technical elements of the film in some way. The producers initiates, coordinates, supervises and controls matters such as raising funds for the film, The producers are involved all of the way through the film from development to the completion of the project.

Pitch for our Film Opening

In this video you will notice us explain our two ideas for the plot of our film opening. After receiving the feedback from the audience we have decided to go with idea 1. Idea 1 is the idea that is read out first by Kiah. This idea involves cross cutting between two male characters. One of the character will be walking downa dark street with low key lighting from the street lights and one running down a block of stairs to meet the other. The idea is that the audience wil expect the two to be involved in some sort of conflict with eachother, this is the part that builds up the tension. But what really happens in the end of the opening is that they are really going to meet eachother and no conflict is involved.
While all of this is going on the titles will be rolling over the top and these will include the name of the film, the actors/actresses the editor and the director.
The feedback from the class for the idea was positive and they liked the sound of the idea which is why we will carry on with this plot without having to make any changes to it.

Target Audience Interviews

These are 3 interviews from people who fit into our target audience. We asked them what their favourite action films are and what they like to see in action films and why. We did this because it gives us a better idea of what we need to include in our film opening to keep the audience interested and to keep watching. From these interviews we discovered that people enjoy the fighting and combat area, the tension created and also like it to keep close to reality. Thanks to these interviews we now know we should keep our idea of building tension and also keeping as close to reality as possible as this is what our target audience want.

Target Audience Interviews

We have now decided on who the target audience for our film opening will be, we used the UK Film Council statistics to help with our choice. We have decided that males from the age of 15-25 from a working class background will be our primary audience and that females aged 15-25 also from a working class background will be our secondary audience.

According to the UK Film Council statistics 50% of people say that they typically enjoy watching an action film. This gives us a good range of people for our target audience as its the 5th from top of what people enjoy to watch.

The graph on page 106 shows us that 50% of people enjoy action films and is 5th from top of what people enjoy watching. It also tells us that people of the working class enjoy the genre more than those of other classes.
According to this graph on page 116, 20% of people have chosen action as their favourite genre of film. It is also 4th from the top which means that more people favor action films rather than most other genres. This proves that there is a potentially large audience for our film opening.

Finally, the graph on page 117 tells us that the group of people who prefer action films are males under the age of 35 and for females that people also under the age of 35 enjoy action films than those over the age of 35.

On the website www.the-numbers.com/ it tells us that the releases that are rated in the top 5 are all action films. This shows us that action films are very popular and helps us with the choice of doing an action film.

These are the highest grossing crime films, as it shows they are all popular films that have been successful. Films such as 'Pulp Fiction' and 'Public Enemies' are a couple of films that are in the top 10. They are both similar, very well know and liked by many people and we hope to make our film opening enjoyable like these.

These statistics are one of the greatest reasons why we have chosen our film to be an action film because of the wide range of people we will interest.

Film Opening Conventions

Changes to my ideas

After looking at teenage demographics I have decided to make some changes to the film. It will contain more action because I have looked at the UK Film Council Statistics and seen that more people will prefer an action film.

My Genre

Our group have decided on the genres crime and comedy for our film opening as we are all interested in these types of film. It will be based on films such as Anuvahood and Kidulthood as these both fit in to our chosen genre.

My Group

I have chosen to work in a group with Anthony Hanson and Kiah Stenhouse as I will be able to get the task completed well with these people because I work well with them and we share similar interests in film. We have decided on doing a crime and action film opening as we all enjoy this genre of film.
